Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure and pride that we welcome the participating European University students and their escorts, in the 9o European Universities Basketball Championship. My warmest greetings to all those involved in this great celebration of the New Generation, of University sport and fair play.
The University of Crete by undertaking the organization of this event becomes the focus of University Sport in Europe and track of fair play for the European Student-Athletes.

The 9th European Universities Basketball Championship is a celebration of sport and sportsmanship, and your participation is an honor for our university and our city. Your joint noble efforts illustrate the ideals of pan-European family, based on universal principles and values that govern the sport, and expressed with respect to friendship and solidarity among all people.

Welcome Note by the President of EUSA, Alberto Gualtieri

I am very pleased to welcome all the athletes, officials and guests to the 9th European Universities Basketball Championship. First of all, let me express my personal congratulations to the Organising Committee for the hard work put in the organisation of this Championship. To them I would like to wish all the best. It is not the first time that the Hellenic Committee for University Sport with its members organises such an important event and I am convinced that they will once again show their extraordinary ability to run such a prestig-ious Championship, as already proven in the past.

Welcome Note by the Prefect of Heraklion Mrs Evangelia Schinaraki-Iliaki for the 9th European Universities Basketball Championship

The Prefecture of Heraklion welcomes with great pleasure the student athletes from all over Europe who are participating in the 9th European Universities Basketball Championship.

The student athletes must feel very proud because they are embodying the ancient Greek motto "sound mind, sound body". These students are stellar examples of how one can concurrently fulfill both one's intellectual and physical potential. By acquiring new knowledge and skills and byparticipating in sports they are strengthening their self confidence and self respect.

The 9th European Universities Basketball Championship is a very important sports event for the city of Heraklion the University sports and the basketball itself.

Basketball is among the most popular sports in our country and once more the games of the Championship will offer to the sports funs a spectacular show in the modern facilities of the University Sports Hall and the TEI Sports Hall which are real ornaments for our city.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 9th European Universities Basketball Championship, I would like to thank the EUSA for entrusting us with the organization of a very important European Championship, as the basketball is ranked among the first sports in the preferences of the sports funs across Europe. This trust brings to us a high sense of responsibility and a challenge to show once more that the University of Crete, the city of Heraklion and Greece in general, are always ready to fulfill the expectations of the people for the organization of high quality events. Especially for the University of Crete the challenge is even higher as we wish to be recognized as the Greek University with the highest performance in the support of the University sports
